Advising

So you would like to find out more about studying abroad... you've come to the right place!

There are several ways to find out information about programs, scholarships, and how to submit an application, along with any other questions you may have. Please determine which of the options below most fit your needs.
  1. General Study Abroad Information
  2. Faculty-Led Programs (FLPs)
  3. One-on-One Advising
    • Now offered online!

Info SessionIf you are looking for general information, attend a Study Abroad Information Session - this is the first step for any student looking to study abroad.
  1. Topics include: common study abroad scholarships, types of programs, things to consider, costs, how to research program options, and how to apply.
  2. A current list of info session dates and locations can be found in the events section of our office's MineTracker page

Faculty-LedIf you have questions about a faculty-led program (FLP), we encourage you to reach out to the program leader directly. The faculty leaders are the best resource for details on eligibility, costs, academics, what kinds of activities the program will include, etc.
  1. You can find the contact information for a program leader on the Overview tab of any FLP program webpage.

One-on-OneIf you have more specific questions and would like one-on-one advising, you can either:
  1. Stop by the VIRTUAL open advising hours - simple topics, limited to 20 minute meetings
    1. Open drop-in advising hours are only offered virtually.
      • We ask that you complete the online advising application (questionnaire) prior to you meeting with one of the staff. The form is completely mobile-friendly and you can access it using your UTEP login information.
      • You can find upcoming dates/times and details on how to access the advising sessions in the events section of our office's MineTracker page.
        • Advising typically takes place Mondays 2-4pm and Thursdays 9-11am
  2. Set up an appointment with a professional staff member - more complex topics requiring longer meetings
    1. Book your appointment using the online calendar for the day/time that works best for you.
      • Make sure to choose the service that best aligns with your advising needs.
      • If you have any difficulties, email studyabroad@utep.edu (include what you need to meet about and some days and times which work for you)
    2. We ask that you have completed the online advising application (questionnaire) prior to you meeting with one of the staff. The form is completely mobile-friendly and you can access it using your UTEP login information.
